Team working to support a familiar routine

...

How a stable team can bring predictability for people as their condition changes

Amy and Laura are home care workers. One of their daily calls is with Alison, who lives at home with her husband Stephen. Alison has Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), which is a progressive neurological condition. As Alison's condition changes, so do her symptoms. Her care needs change quite often. Alison has a communication disability and she was finding it very tiring trying to explain what she needs to multiple staff. The home care agency has recognised Alison's unique needs and have managed to get her a small regular team. It is challenging to achieve but has really helped. Stephen plays a key role in team communication as well.

As you watch, ask yourself...

  • Thinking of a person you support - is there one thing you could easily change to support their daily routine

  • How could you share this change with your colleagues to help make this change stick?
