Keeping mobile to maintain skills and hobbies

...

How supporting mobility needs can keep people engaged in their favourite activities

Heather loves to cook, and Adam her PA is her right hand man in the kitchen. At university Heather regularly cooked for her friends. In past years her mobility has changed affecting her balance, stamina for standing and hand coordination. Her ADHD and autism also affect her planning and timing. But she still has the skills and the knowledge. Now she has Adam as her PA, one of their key activities is batch cooking. He does some of the physical jobs, and prompts Heather regarding the recipe and her physical comfort.

As you watch, ask yourself...

  • Adam uses humour to prompt Heather - why has he chosen this approach?

  • In what different ways does cooking benefit Heather and her symptoms?
